The most expensive luxury hotels in the world

The “Le Dune” hotel, located on the Mediterranean Island of Sardinia, is the most expensive hotel in the world according to a recent survey from The survey compared luxury hotels across the globe and then ranked them based on their average rates for a standard double room this June to August 2012 summer season. As a result, the dollar figures behind the rankings reflect the minimum amount a visitor had to spend to stay at a particular hotel.

Coming in at an average rate of $2539 per night, the “Le Dune” hotel easily scored the top spot. This luxurious accommodation is situated in Santa Margherita di Pula, a seaside resort along Sardinia’s southern coast. The “Le Dune” was significantly more expensive than the runners up, the Royal Mansour in Marrakech, Morocco and the Hotel Pitrizza in Sardinia’s Porto Cervo. There, average rooms are going for $2060 and $2041 per night, respectively, this summer.

Overall, Sardinia landed three more hotels in the Top 10, for a total of five. The others making the cut were the Villa del Parco, the Hotel Cala di Volpe and the Hotel Romazzino. Asia made a showing on the survey’s list as well. The continent’s most expensive hotel, the Amankora in Buhtan, settled into the number five slot with an average nightly rate of $1910. Finishing out the Top 10 were the Maia Luxury Resort in the Seychelles and two upscale resorts in Australia, the Southern Ocean Lodge and the Lizard Island.

Following are the 10 most expensive hotels in the world for the period spanning June through August 2012. The rates listed are based on the average price for a standard double room.

1. Le Dune, Forte Village Resort (Sardinia, Italy) $2539
2. Royal Mansour (Marrakech, Morocco) $2060
3. Hotel Pitrizza (Sardinia, Italy) $2041
4. Villa del Parco (Sardinia, Italy) $2031
5. Amankora (Paro, Bhutan) $1910
6. Hotel Cala di Volpe (Sardinia, Italy) $1904
7. Hotel Romazzino (Sardinia, Italy) $1850
8. Maia Luxury Resort and Spa (Anse Louis, Seychelles) $1692
9. Southern Ocean Lodge (Kangaroo Island, Australia) $1665
10. Lizard Island (Great Barrier Reef, Australia) $1651

Compare Car HireThe survey was conducted from May to July 2012. For all luxury hotels, the average rate for a standard double room was calculated for the period spanning June to August 2012. Only such hotels offering a minimum of 20 rooms were considered. The rates were taken from the respective hotels’ websites or drawn from the leading hotel-booking sites. In all cases, the lowest available price was used in tabulating the results. If the standard double room was sold out for a particular day, the standard “theoretical” rate for that day was substituted and included in the average rating. All rates were established in U.S. dollars or converted into such figures using the exchange rate for the respective day.

Renting a car at any of these top locations and, finding the best deal has never been easier. Car Hire Assistant, the car rental price comparison site can compare up to 550 suppliers, which cover 175 countries, including Sardinia. Hotel overnights in Europe set to increase

Travellers from Germany are more modest in their choice of hotel than holidaymakers from the UK or Russia and prefer middle-class accommodation.

The proportion of Germans who stay in luxury hotels has even declined and currently stands at 13 per cent. These are the results of a special evaluation of the World Travel Monitor on the European travellers’ preferred types of accommodation conducted by IPK International and commissioned by ITB Berlin.

At 57 per cent, overnights represent Europeans’ preferred type of accommodation. Around 234 out of 413 million trips abroad are spent staying at hotels, with currently more European travellers choosing a hotel bed than five years ago.

In 2007 this type of accommodation accounted for 52 per cent. Some 58 per cent of German travellers currently favour hotels. The leaders are Britons (60 per cent) and Russians (66 per cent).

Among Polish and Dutch travellers hotel overnights are less popular (44 and 45 per cent respectively). Around Europe the choices of hotel category also vary.

Among Europeans the proportion of overnights in standard accommodation (middle-class and budget hotels) has stagnated, whereas overnights in four and five-star hotels have risen by four and two per cent respectively.

According to the survey by IPK International Russian holidaymakers in particular prefer luxury accommodation, with 26 per cent opting for the comforts of a five-star hotel whenever they travel abroad. 22 per cent of Britons choose five-star accommodation, which puts them alongside the main nations preferring luxury hotels.

Over the last five years the percentage of Russians and Britons favouring luxury accommodation has risen by two and four per cent respectively, whereas the percentage of Germans preferring this segment stands at only 13 per cent.

Commenting on the reasons for growth in luxury hotel overnights, Martin Buck, director of the Competence Centre Travel & Logistics, Messe Berlin, said: “At many destinations these categories have been offering more and more in recent years.

“Increasingly, rooms at four-star hotels can now be booked for the price of middle-class accommodation. Luxury hotel over nights are also being offered at reduced rates. Frequent use of online booking portals and the growth in direct marketing play an important role here.”

“The effect of ever-present customer loyalty programs and tour operators who normally operate on the mass market advertising rooms in premium-class hotels should not be underestimated either. As a result bookings for four and five-star accommodation have increased and over the coming years will probably continue to do so.”

Compare Car Hire – NH offers free WI-FI in all its rooms worldwide

Compare Car Hire

Compare car hire in 175 countries, with up to 550 rental operators. Free service.

From August, the Company’s hotels, located in 26 different countries, will have free WiFi both in common areas and in all the rooms. • The Company has therefore responded to a frequent customer request, once again demonstrating NH Hoteles’ commitment to quality and customer service

In line with its Wake Up to a Better World claim, which is about positioning the brand in terms of quality and customer service, NH Hoteles has announced that from the 1st of August all its guests will have access to free WiFi both in all the rooms and in common areas in its establishments.

Just three months ago, Tripadvisor published a study which revealed the importance of WiFi to travellers when booking a hotel room, pointing out that for more than 90% of them it has become a determining factor in choosing their accommodations. Furthermore, an article recently published in the travel section of The Telegraph, reported that only a third of hotel establishments around the world offer this service completely free of charge, and of that percentage many are independent hotels.

Make huge savings by purchasing your Car Hire Excess Insurance before you leave and not with the rental operator. World-wide cover.

NH is therefore the first international hotel chain to offer this service globally in all its hotels under the claim “We-Free your world at NH Hoteles”, remaining clearly committed to innovation and satisfying its customers’ requests both through Socail Media and the internal Quality Focus On-Line system, with one in every five comments related to WiFi.

During the first phase, starting on the 1st of August, 361 out of the 400 hotels located in the Group’s different Business Units in all the 26 countries will have this service which will be progressively implemented in the remaining establishments where a viability plan has already been introduced to guarantee adequate coverage and speed.

“Free WiFi is now one of the main services requested by our customers and increasingly affects their booking decisions. Although NH Hoteles has been offering this service free of charge in its lobby for some time, we have wanted to extend it to our rooms for a single purpose: to satisfy our clients’ needs and make them feel at home, so they can connect to their relatives without paying anything extra or work comfortably and effectively as if they were in their own office”, commented Mariano Pérez Claver, Chairman of NH Hoteles.
