Google continued to push into the travel sector earlier, with the acquisition of the Frommer’s brand of guidebooks.
The move is expected to allow the online search giant to boost its offering of original content offerings.
John Wiley & Sons said earlier this year it was open to the sale of its key non-core assets, with Google snapping up all of its travel assets, including all of its interests in the Frommer’s brand.
The terms of the deal have not been disclosed. Google recently purchased the Zagat food guide in order to boost its tourism sector offering. The search company said it was seeking to offer “a review for every relevant place in the world”.
Google has been evolving its search services in recent months to be able to provide users with immediate answers to their questions as opposed to directing them to other web sites.
The deal will require competition commission approval before completion.
